Frequently asked questions

Clear answers to help you understand the issue and prepare your next step.

Why does the DCFS library separate investigations, findings and court proceedings?

They represent different stages and forms of action. An investigator's request, a notice of a finding and a judicial order do not have the same function. Identify the document you received and any related case before relying on guidance for the next step.

Which records should stay together when reading about an indicated finding?

Keep the full finding notice, envelope, delivery information and related court papers in one file. The procedural history can matter to the response. A general appeal explanation should not be used to calculate an individual filing period without those records.
